Sierra Nevada sampling at Mudville - Wednesday, January 19th

Hey gang,
So in case you've been hiding under a beer mug and didn't hear, Sierra Nevada and Mudville will be holding a sampling event on Wednesday, January 19th from 6-8 pm.

WELL...we just got the scoop on which kegs the boys from Chico, California will be dragging through the snow to our tasting on Wednesday at Mudville9

And the winners are...

The flagship CLASSIC PALE - AMERICAN PALE ALE
(ABV): 5.6%
A delightful interpretation of a classic style. It has a deep amber color and an exceptionally full-bodied, complex character. Generous quantities of premium Cascade hops give the Pale Ale its fragrant bouquet and spicy flavor.

CELEBRATION - IPA WINTER SEASONAL
(ABV): 6.8%
The long, cold nights of winter are a little brighter with Celebration Ale. Wonderfully robust and rich, Celebration Ale is dry-hopped for a lively, intense aroma. Brewed especially for the holidays, it is perfect for a festive gathering or for a quiet evening at home.

The BREWER'S RESERVE - GRAND CRU
(ABV): 9.2%
Brewers Reserve is a special ale highlighting our pioneering history and the innovative spirit that has carried us through all these years. It is a marriage of our three most acclaimed ales: Oak-aged Bigfoot, Celebration Ale, and fresh Pale Ale blended together and generously dry-hopped. Come join us in celebrating thirty years with this most special brew. Drink it now, or save it for a future anniversary of your own.

NORTHERN HEMISPHERE  - FRESH HOP ALE
(ABV): 6.7% ABV
Created in 1996, Harvest Ale features Cascade and Centennial hops from the Yakima Valley in Eastern Washington. These hops are harvested and shipped as “wet” un-dried hops—the same day they are picked—to our brewery in Chico where our brewers eagerly wait to get them into the brew kettle while their oils and resins are still at their peak

And word around the campfire is that Mudville will be the first place, not in Tribeca...not in Lower Manhattan, but in all of New York City to carry the Glissade Spring seasonal! We can't wait to offer this to our elite beer fans.

GLISSADE GOLDEN BOCK - SPRING SEASONAL
(ABV): 6.4%
As winter begins its slide toward the sunny days of spring, we bring you Glissade Golden Bock to help you enjoy the ride. With restrained sweetness, we emphasize subtle malt flavor, balanced against delicate aromas of spicy and floral European hops. This complex balance helps Glissade slide across the palate—bracing us against the last cold nights of winter, while its bright golden color turns our thoughts toward spring.

There's going to be a beer for any taste. But grab your buddies and clock out early for this happy hour, the event only goes from 6-8 PM.

Cheers!

Hoppy New Year from Tribeca!

Here at Mudville we're looking forward to a great year of craft beer sampling, and we know you are too. Stay in the loop here at Tribeca Craft Beer and by visiting (and liking) our facebook page, Mudville9.

Presently, as we expect our 3rd offering from the snow gods this winter, Mudville is fully stocked with winter warmers on tap to keep you toasty if you happen to be snowed-in in lower Manhattan.

KULMBACHER Ice Bock (Eisbock) – somewhat of a rarity these days, Eisbocks are doppelbocks that are frozen to push out "excess" water in the brew to yield higher alcohol.

As Kulmbacher puts it: The ice bock, also known as "Bavarian", owes its discovery to a coincidence. According to the chronicles of the Kulmbacher brewery, some time around 1900 an apprentice forgot on a cold winter day to carry two barrels of bock beer into the brewery cellar. The barrels stayed outside, were covered by ice and snow and weren't discovered until the following spring. The barrels had burst and the apprentice was reprimanded. But the carelessness was a stroke of luck because under the thick ice coat, a bock beer extract remained, strong tasting and high in alcoholic content. Even if the dark, tasty speciality is not produced in this spectacular way anymore, the chance that gave birth to this beer became a tradition. Today this beer rarity is brewed in a modern brewing and freezing process, but the incomparable taste is still the same and can always be enjoyed in winter months.

Alcohol: 9.2 % volume

RIDGEWAY Reindeer's Revolt – If you're looking for something a little less high on the alcohol yet heavy on the flavor this might be your cup of tea.

A golden-amber, hop-accented, English "winter warmer" brewed without spices. It's lighter on the palate than the other holiday beers.
If you're looking for something to drink to escape the drudgery of the holiday season, this would be the beer for you. Perfect for, say, relaxing on the beach with a coconut in one hoof, and a beer in the other.

Both of these warmers pair well with Mudville's ribs (I suggest with a little smokey BBQ sauce) or say a pulled pork sandwich complete with Grandma Roz's cole slaw.

Come in and warm up with the crew at Mudville. Don't forget to ask your server or bartender about joining the Beer Club. Drink 75 beers (not necessarily in one sitting) and you'll receive $50 and your name in lights, well, okay, not in lights but how about in metal on a plaque? See you soon.

Cheers!

Smuttynose

Gravitation Ale
First released in January, 2009, Gravitation Belgian Quad is the newest offering in the Smuttynose Big Beer Series.  This big, dark ale is brewed using a variety of Belgian specialty malts along with 200 pounds of raisin puree per batch.  The resulting flavor is a viscous mix of dark fruit, rum, toffee and raisins balanced with aromatic fruitiness of the Belgian yeast.  This beer has a starting gravity of 23 degrees Plato.
ABV
2010 - 12.0%
Pairing suggestion:
Have this one for desert!

Winter Ale
Smuttynose Winter Ale is a full-bodied, amber beer brewed with a special Trappist ale yeast. Stylistically reminiscent of a Belgian Abbey Double, it features fruity aromas and flavor, balanced by soft Crystal hops. Warming, mellow & pleasantly complex, Smuttynose Winter Ale is your perfect cold weather companion.
Available in six-packs and on draft from late October through February.
ABV 5.1%
Pairing Suggestion:
½ Pound Certified Angus Beef Burger with American cheese and Seasoned Fries.

Robust Porter
This hearty, mahogany colored ale is brewed to evoke the dark, full-bodied ales that were a favorite of dockworkers and warehousemen (hence the name “Porter”) in 19th century London. It is a good bet that when Dickens’ Mr. Pickwick sat down for a pint, we would have been drinking an ale much like our Robust Porter. This is a smooth and very drinkable beer, characterized by its well-balanced malt and hops, plus subtle notes of coffee and chocolate.
“Full-bodied and malty with undertones of coffee and chocolate and a bright, hoppy finish, in style it’s like Cary Grant's accent: the best of British and American.” - The Boston Globe, November, 2005
ABV 5.7%
Special Notes:
GOLD MEDAL WINNER - Porter , 2001 Great American Beer Festival
JUDGED GRAND CHAMPION - Best Porter in the USA - 10th Annual US Beer Tasting Championship
Pairing Suggestion:
The BBQ Burger with a side of Sweet Potato Mash.

French craft beer hits Mudville9 in TriBeCa

Jenlain Ambree - Amber Biere de Garde - 7.5%ABV -(this beer will be available at Mudville9 for the next 3 - 6 days)

With a maltier and more rugged taste than classic beers, Jenlain is a very lively, complex brew. It's generous taste lingers pleasantly in the mouth while its malty, autumnal bouquet, floral note and hints of caramel, stewed prunes and lightly toasted malt make it an ideal ingredient in many dishes. It was awarded the "Diploma of Merit and National Prestige" in 1993 by the Comitè de France and the Comitè du Bon Goût Français, and recently won a Bronze Metal at the 2004 Agricultural Show.

The flavors of this beer go perfect with the tastes of the Mudville 9's Maryland Lump Crab Cakes. The slightly breaded pieces of crab are a perfect match with the caramel and malty flavors of the beer.

Full Sail IPA has arrived at MUDVILLE9

Full Sail IPA , from Hood River, OR, is now available in NYC and at Mudville9 for the first time ever! The British colonists who once visited India invented India Pale Ale. Generously hopped to 60 IBU's in the classic style, this IPA is a real thirst quencher. It has a full, malty body and there's even a hint of fresh citrus to it. This English style IPA is a full-flavored, full-bodied brew that has a big bold malt character and intense aromatics. It’s a well-balanced, golden-colored brew that has a crisp hop finish that doesn’t bite. With its palate cleansing finish, this IPA is a perfect and goes great with the portobello salad or a juicy Mudville9 burger medium rare with a portobello mushroom on top. If you don't love burgers this finish will compliment the thai wings beautifully.

This classic English style IPA is brewed with: 2-row Pale malt and is hopped with Challenger and East Kent Goldings hops. Six time gold medal winner at the World Beer Championships. 6.5% ABV.

This beer should be on the Mudville9 beer lines for the next week or so

The new Sixpoint Pilsner @ Mudville 9 in TriBeCa NYC

The Sixpoint Sehr Crisp is a celebration of all things that make Pilsner beer great:  crisp, clean flavors - soft, subtle malt honey and lots of peppery hops. This beer was brewed with a very special floor-malted variety of Moravian malt, found exclusively in the Czech Republic.  Sixpoint then combined this malt with two other proprietary varieties in a simple and unique grain bill, and turn its attention to the hops - in which they sourced varieties from both the United States and Germany.

An extended cold-lagering phase allows this beer to finish clean, and beckons you for another sip.  The best explanation of have for this beer is CRISP!!!! The ABV:  5.3% & IBU:   41

This new Sixpoint Pilsner is a perfect pairing with the Mudville9 (www.mudville9.com) Jamaican Jerk Chicken Wings. The CRISP flavor of the beer with just the right amount of hops to wash down the spice of your tongue while remaining eminently slammable.
